Terms of Service

Please read these terms before using the app. They cover what the app does, and what it is not a substitute for.

Last updated August 31, 2026

Using the app

OBD2: Check Engine Reset is provided for use with OBD-II equipped vehicles and compatible OBD2 adapters. You are responsible for using it lawfully and for making sure that you are entitled to run diagnostics on the vehicle you connect to.

Diagnostics are information, not repairs

A diagnostic trouble code describes what the vehicle reported, not what needs to be replaced. Resetting a Check Engine Light clears stored emissions-related diagnostic information; it does not repair the underlying fault. If the condition that triggered the warning is still present, the vehicle will turn the light back on.

The app is not a substitute for inspection by a qualified technician. Do not use it to make safety decisions about a vehicle you believe is unsafe to drive, and do not operate the app while driving.

Emissions testing

Clearing emissions-related diagnostic information also resets the vehicle's readiness monitors. A vehicle with monitors that have not completed may not pass an emissions inspection until it has been driven enough for those monitors to run again. Consider this before resetting shortly before a test.

Compatibility

Vehicle and adapter compatibility varies by model, model year, market and scanner hardware. The app is designed for broad compatibility with standard OBD-II diagnostics and common ELM327-compatible adapters, but no specific vehicle, adapter or diagnostic function is guaranteed.

Trademarks

Vehicle manufacturer names, adapter brand names and platform names are trademarks of their respective owners. They are used on this site only to describe compatibility. Nothing here implies affiliation with, endorsement by or sponsorship from any manufacturer or brand.

Disclaimer and liability

The app and this website are provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, to the extent permitted by law. We are not liable for vehicle damage, failed inspections, repair costs or other losses arising from use of the app, beyond what applicable law requires.

Changes to these terms

These terms may be updated as the product changes. The current version is always the one published on this page, with its last-updated date shown above.
